An insert for the deluxe (Colossus) edition of Mosaic - A Story Of Civilization.
I had some specific needs to address. First it had to fit in the box with NO LID LIFT. Second, it had to accommodate trade good tokens in coin capsules, and sleeved cards. Third, I have the XL player boards, but wanted to keep the standard player boards too. And it had to aid setup and play.
Improving on the original vac-formed insert and trays was not hard, but mine does weigh a lot more! It takes up less space in use on the table though.
Consists of:
Pus a set of trays for each player, with:
The player trays have spaces for 6mm long, 3mm diameter neodymium magnets, to help hold the trays in place in transit. They needed to accommodate things like the port bases, wonder bases and XL resource rings I sell on Etsy, but also provide some protection for painted pieces. My one regret is that I could not make more space in the trays to separate out the different types of military units, but there is only so much space in the box; if someone bugs me enough, I could do a variant tray for people without the XL player boards that would better accommodate the minis.
I use Sleeve Kings for my sleeving; they are 60 microns thick, rather than the more usual 90 micron premium sleeves. If you use the thicker sleeves, I'd suggest printing four copies of the larger of the two Ideas cards holders (instead of all the smaller ones), and ditching the Herobotus card box altogether. Won't be as elegant in play, though, as you'll need to have loose stacks of cards on the board rather than having the six stacks in holders.
The renders show how it all fits together (with the player boards underneath the resource/coin trays). Like the pictures, I have my card holders and player trays in appropriate colours.
Box is arranged with the main trays in the bottom (with the standard player boards underneath the coin and resource caddies), then a layer of the six player piece trays, then the board, rules and XL player boards on top.
The photos show how the bits go in the player trays; the tallest towns need to go in the deep tray with the unit pieces, and the lid goes on top of the cities tray (to give the port cities the extra height they need).
