This traditional Christmas wreath ornament is shown 3d printed with Matterhackers Blue/Green Quantum PLA which is a co-extruded dual color PLA. Since this ornament is constructed of hundreds of 3d triangles at various angles, it looks interesting as light reflects from it especially when it is 3d printed using a shiny silk or metal flake PLA. Dual color PLA's look interesting as each triangle reflects a different combination of the colors.
The bow is printed separately from Protopasta Candy Apple Red in this set of photos.
The wreath is two identical halves with a small U shaped track for a ribbon or similar to hang the ornament and then glued together.
Settings for the bow:
- position so that bow is laying flat as if on top of a package
- Layer height: 0.12mm
- Wall count: 99 (solid)
- Infill: 100%
- Supports: None
Settings for the wreath:
- print the wreath stl twice for two halves
- position each wreath half flat on the smooth section of the wreath
- Layer height: 0.2mm
- Wall count: 2
- Infill: 5%
- Supports: None
Assembly:
- The U track for hanging the ornament is made for 0.07in(0.18cm) ribbon
- Cut a piece of 0.07in ribbon at least 6 inches (150mm) long
- Place each edge of ribbon into the U track of one wreath half so that the two ends meet in the bottom of the U.
- Glue the ribbon in place and glue the two wreath halves together with the ribbon captured inside the U.
- Wait for the glue to set to be sure the ribbon is secure.
- Super glue works great for gluing this. Hot glue is too thick and leaves a gap.
- Hot glue the red bow to the wreath. Hot glue works better for this as it fills the gaps between the red bow and the spikes of the wreath.
- Hang it on your Christmas tree!
Notes:
- Plain matte type PLA yields plain results. Use a silk, sparkle, or dual color for best results.
- The wreath and bow can be resized if you prefer a larger ornament.
- Using only one half of the wreath to glue to a door in a Christmas village display is possible but the wreath and bow may need to be resized.
