Samsung SC8420 (DJ97-00339G)
All common 16x8mm step carbon filters should be compatible.
You'll have a ton of backpressure because of the filter restriction, so only the seal between the fan mount and the filter assembly matters.
-= Prerequisites =-
You'll need
For the Fan mount:
M4x50 or M4x55 (if you using a fan grill) x4
M4 nuts x4
For the Filter assembly:
DIN912 M3x30 x4
M3 nuts x4
(Optionally) Filter assembly screw-in's
DIN912 M4x60 x2
M4 nuts x2
The filter assembly holds using a pretty snug dove tail slider, and screw-in's are for the better seal.
-= Assembly Instructions =-
1. Print the 1. Fan Cover.stl and 2. Automotive Exhaust Fan Mount.stl with build plate supports. Print the 3. Fan Wiring Plug.stl as well.
2. Insert Four M4 nuts for the fan mount both into the Fan Cover and Automotive Fan Mount. Insert Two more M4 nuts into the cable channel cutouts of the Fan Mount, for the Filter assembly screw-in. Feel free to use some super glue to make nuts placement permanent.
3. Insert your Exhaust Fan and press fit it with the Fan Cover and The Fan Mount using the Dove Tail Joints.
3. Attach your Fan Assembly with Fan Cover and Automotive Fan Mount using Four m4x50 or m4x55 screws to the Printer (insert fan grill, if present)
You'll need about 150mm clearance from the fan cover side to slide the Filter assembly.
It's Advisable to place the Fan Cover at the bottom, so the Filter Assembly would slide upwards.
Make sure you've routed the Exhaust Fan wire using either Fan Cover or Automotive Fan Mount Wiring Cutouts. Plug the remaining one with the **Fan Wiring Plug** (feel free to glue it). Use the Fan Mount side cable channels to route your toolhead wiring, while screwing the Fan Mount to the printer backplate.
4. Print the three Filter Assembly parts
4. Automotive Filter Holder Middle.stl (a hard one, for sure)
5. Automotive Filter Holder Back.stl
6. Automotive Filter Holder Front.stl
build plate supports are mandatory.
It's Advisable to rotate the model so the press fit spikes would be supported facing the build plate.
5. Cut out your Automotive Filter, using Filter Holder Back and Filter Holder Front, as a template (you'll need 15 sections)
6. Insert Four M3 Nuts inside the Filter Holder Front part
7. Press fit the filtering material. Carbon should be facing backwards, where the screws mounting holes are. Tighten it all up with the four m3x30 screws
8. Slide the filtering assembly onto the Fan Mount.
9. (Optionally) Tighten the filtering assembly with Two m4x60 screews (placed between the m3's in the step 7, using M4 nuts from the step 2)
10. Print 7. Samsung SC8420 adapter.stl and just Press fit it into the Filter Holder middle
Press fit is enough because carbon filters are fairly restrictive.
This part should be more or less airtight with 100% Exhaust, feel free to use masking tape around the filter assembly and the Hepa13 filter adapter.
Feel free to remix/mod this to your taste.
