Portable base for Kenmore (Sears) 17741 sewing machine

Needed a portable base for the Kenmore 1774 (158.17741) sewing machine as it kept tilting over on me.

Sewing machine didn't come with the case or portable base so made one up to make sure the machine doesn't tilt over while working with it.

Not sure what other machines this will fit, I know it won't work on the 1720 (new design for that coming once i have time).

Settings i used are:

  • .6mm nozzle (.4mm should work too just takes a lot longer)
  • .2mm layer height
  • 25% cubic infill (Although 20% and any infill pattern with good x, y support would work)
  • 5 top layers
  • 4 bottom layers
  • 1.2mm wall thickness (2 perimeters for .6mm nozzle or 3 perimeters for .4mm nozzle)

If you want to check if this will fit your machine here's the 17741 dimensions I measured:

Front edge

  • 160mm long
  • 10mm lip

back edge

  • 15mm lip
  • 61mm long (length to mounts)

Left side (Depth)

  • 184mm Deep
  • 18mm lip

I had measured 71mm for the overall height of the machine, the model height though is 70mm so that i can glue on silicone no slip mats underneath, i tested it without the silicone and it's still a nice snug fit.

7.2mm thick and the recess is about 25mm from left edge to the plate.

Lip is the depth of the underside before it hits any components.

printed dimensions are about 10mm on each side and has a 8mm “lip” to support the machine.  The recess is 105mm long and starts about 25mm in to accommodate the plate.

Also included a test piece for fitment so there's less waste on materials to see if this will work.
