Easy to create custom cases with OpenSCAD. The PDF explaining how to use the Customizer is a nice touch (even though I create models with OpenSCAD and don't need it myself). No problems printing the cases on my Bambu Lab X1 Carbon using a 0.6 mm nozzle with a 0.18 mmm layer height. The filament used was Filaments.ca PLA EcoTough blue steel. The EcoTough line isn't available anymore but the technology to make plastic stronger has been incorporated into another product line. (No, I don't get anything from them.)
I used OrcaSlicer, 0.18 mm layers, 0.3 mm first layer, random seam position, contour and holes for scarf joint seam setting, turned on Arc fitting, used Precise wall, Arachne wall generator, only one wall for top surfaces and the first layer, 3 walls, and 25% gyroid infill. Some of these and the rest of the settings were my default print settings.
Came out great! Made a few changes to optimize thicknesses (features being made multiples of line widths mostly), simply added labels in the slicer to use a more favorable font. Three hours print time and $1.70 in PLA replaced three handfuls of packing material... feels good 🤣
If I had any feedback, it'd be on using more optimized geometry for the pin and internal hinge body to have less rounded bottom edges. I don't know how to do this in OpenSCAD though. They work fine as-is though - just make sure to wear them in a little bit before loading them up else you might spill your batteries trying to get it back open for the first time.
Default hinge tolerances are a bit too tight, I increased them in the SCAD file. Also modified it to use a 5x1.3mm magnet. Some sanding was required to make the lid close all the way.
Printed on Fokoos Odin 5 - F3 with 50% infill and 0.2 layer. It came out very well! (edited)
