The LEGO Saturn V is an awesome model to build and showcase. Unfortunately I do not have the shelf space, so I designed these mounts to hang it on the wall at a 45 degree angle.
You can print multiple sets of these if you want to separate the stages. I just used the two since the model is rigid enough to support itself.
Update: I've corrected the curvature on the thruster mount and widened it. It feels much more solid now. The close-up photo reflects the updated part.
Rafts:
No
Supports:
Yes
Resolution:
0.2 mm
Infill:
30% full honeycomb
Notes:
The arm and middle mount should be printable without supports. The arm is the same for both mounts, print it twice.
The pins have quite a low tolerance, so you might need to file and/or sand them a bit to get them just right. Try not to force them in, as it will cause unnecessary stress on the layers.
I painted it red to resemble the launch tower.
Attach the arms to the wall and insert the mounts afterwards so you can access the screws easily. It's probably best not to tighten the screws much, just enough to keep it flush to the wall. The pins should be sturdy enough to keep everything in place, but if you're uncomfortable with that a bit of CA glue can help.
The model is designed in Fusion 360. I have tried to make good use of the dimensions and constraints, and put the angle at which the model is held in a User Parameter (which are under Modify - Change Parameters). I am still learning though, and at the moment the arm and middle mount screw up if you change the angle. I might try to fix it if anyone's interested in alternate angles.
I've included the exported .f3d file if you want to tweak it. If you have any cool changes (or fixed the angle issue) I'd appreciate it if you share them with me and the community!
The STL files have been rotated to their preferred printing orientation using MeshMixer, because I forget to set Fusion to "Z up" before creating the model.
