Summary continued:
A symbol of the Ukrainian Coat of arms with a stand so you can put it on any surface be it a table or desk for decoration.
Problem Statement:
With a partner, you will design a “2D” placard using Solidworks. You and your partner will have the same design which meets the constraints below, and you will EACH use Solidworks to create your design.
Assembly Instructions:
Once all pieces are printed, there are very minimal steps for assembly. You should take the yellow base and begin placing the blue pieces in each of the corresponding spaces.
When assembled the final product should look like this!
Design Choices:
We started the project by importing an image of the Ukraine coat of arms onto a rectangular prism 17.5 cm tall, 12.5 cm wide, and .5 cm deep. We then traced the drawing onto a sketch using lines and curves but no splines as they do not cut-extrude very well.
We noticed that the rectangle would not fit our original shape idea.
We needed the shape to be more shield-like. In order to do that we needed to cut the bottom segments of the rectangle. The first step in this process was to cut the border of the emblem.
Then we cut away the bottom parts of the rectangle and then we got our shield shape that we wanted.
Then we cut-extruded the emblem of the Ukrainian Coat of Arms.
The next design choice we had was to have the emblem protrude out from the base.
This was an artistic choice. Another artistic choice was to chamfer the ends of the model to make it less jagged and we figured that the chamfer because it looks more militaristic.
Then, while we were making our stand, we decided to fillet it to make it more smooth.
