Overview: This model was inspired by the Farscape1 LUT. New parts have been made to make it exact per the original NASA 75M-05120 and 75M-05121 drawings. The farscape1 model was pretty sparse so many additional parts are provided by aviator67. Once I got into this model I realized the Farscape1 model has too many inaccuracies. As a result I have used none of the Farscape1 parts for this model. I have however used many of the aviator67 added parts as well as some other parts that have been given to me along the way. Reference the parts spreadsheet to see the origin of the various parts. At the top I had to redesign the existing crane model due to inaccuracies and to automate the crane.
Procedures: Start with the UmbilicalTower.pdf instructions which are a work in progress and the LUTPartsList spreadsheet that lists all the parts that need to be printed along with their origin. There are spreadsheets that describe the I-Beams, legs and other parts by level. This model is not for the feint of heart as there are over 5,600 pieces that need to be printed.
I suggest studying the photos and original drawings along with the Micro Artwork Level drawing. Many of these original documents can be found by joining https://groups.io/g/LUTGroup.
If you wish to build the entire model, I would start with the Launcher (the base the Umbilical Tower sits on) and the Saturn V rocket. I modeled the 1/60th scale amphioxus model which can be found at https://www.chronic3d.com/. You should print the Apollo 15 model. The cost is reasonable but if you want a free version there is one published by Farscape1 as part of the overall Apollo LUT model. I have not printed that rocket so I cannot vouch for its accuracy.
The overall status is listed below. You can follow my progress at http://www.spacemodels-forum.com/t41f46578-Scale-LUT.html. There is also a summary of the progress at https://hackaday.io/project/193676-apollo-saturn-v-and-lut
Due to the size of this model, I chose to divide the model into sections. The sections are not glued together so the tower can be disassembled and moved. These sections are described in the SectionsDecoded.pdf file. It is recommended that the model be built from the ground up, level by level.
The model is split into multiple models on this site that contain like parts due to the overwhelming number of parts. The models and their overall status are as follows:
The filament colors I used include the red/orange - Paramount Volcanic Orange, the elevator - Overture Matte Light Green, the Launcher and other grey parts - Flashforge Silk Metal Grey and for other steel parts - PolyLite Steel Grey. There are other colors such as white, black, blue and yellow. The manufacturer doesn't matter. It is important that for the grey light shades, if you use a different filament make sure the filament is not transparent otherwise the lights will have a strange glow. I am not sure how much of each color is required due to the amount of failed parts in the build process over two years. You will probably need two or three spools of the red/orange.
Updates:
2/19/2025: Updated parts list due to crane mods.
