I purchased a used 997.1 this year and found the sound quality severely lacking after upgrading the old aftermarket head unit. Turns out the factory amp (ASK) had failed along with the stock woofers in the front doors. The factory woofers are a non-standard size which meant I would have to pay the Porsche tax on some paper coned speakers. Doing some research online, I learned that an 8" shallow woofer (less than 3" depth) could fit in the factory location. I ordered a pair of Pyle 8" woofers from amazon (model PLMW83) and used fusion360 to make an adapter ring to use the stock mounting holes.
If you don't want to hack up the speaker wiring harness in your car you can cut out the speaker plug on the stock speaker mounting plate and insert it into my adapter ring (see photos) securing it with some glue.
Then it's just a matter of soldering the positive and negative terminals on the new speaker to the plug and you're good to go.
I used self tapping screws to mount the new speaker to the ring and the stock bolts to mount the new ring to the door. You will have to install the ring to the door first and then attach the speaker to the ring as the lip of the speaker overlaps the bolt holes.
Edit 11/01/2024: Hopefully fixed the imported scaling problem. Tested in bambustudio.
