I keep the filament spools I'm not currently using in 11 inch vacuum sealed bags. The void in the hole of the spool isn't evacuated, so some air still remains in the bag. Instead of buying silica packets and ignoring the hole, I created a basket to contain silica gel and sized to fit inside the hole to also fill the void when vacuum sealing the spools.
The lid slips inside the basket and makes a nice tight fit. A little bit of sanding on the lid and inside of basket makes for a very smooth snug fit. Overall dimensions are 66mm (H) x 54mm (Dia). Interior volume is approx. 120mL (35-40g silica gel beads).
