I was looking for a model that was deep enough for an almost full resin vat and also had a wide enough base to grab onto the cured layer. I did not find one that I was happy with, so I created this in onshape. The model is not a blazing fast print on an FDM printer, but it works really well. On my Voron V0.1 it took about 50 minutes to print. I suggest printing this on a flat surface such as glass or smooth PEI with standard settings, we don't need this piece to be very strong, just strong enough to be able to slowly pull on it as we peel the cured layer off the release film. This model is also designed to be a single use item. I have a few printed out ready to go just in case.
Notice: While this works well for me, please make sure that you have an understanding that there still may be a chance you need to clean your vat entirely and verify there are not contaminates or “pokey bits” on the release film. If you are unsure in anyway, I HIGHLY recommend you empty the vat and check. I am not responsible for cracked screens, torn release sheets or other issues because you assumed this would get rid of everything. Please do your best to make sure you have no cured resin in your vat or on your release film when you start a print. Resin printing is a lot of fun, fixing resin printers are not.
Instructions
Once this item is printed you will need to do the following:
1. Place the pawn FLAT in a corner. I personally place the bump out into the corner of my vat, but it should work in any orientation. We are striving for a good amount of the model touching the corner of the screen (with the release film in between)
2. Locate the tank clean/vat clean option on your printer and select a time to clean the tank for. I found that a slightly lower number that what I would normally clean the tank with gave me an easier sheet of cured resin to pull and also still gripped onto the pawn nicely.
3. Wait the amount of time you set in step two with the pawn placed in the vat. DO NOT MOVE THE PAWN. It is important that we try to have the pawn remain as still as possible to allow the resin to cure to it.
4. Once your tank/vat clean cycle is complete, SLOWLY pull the pawn upward. You may need to angle the pawn if you feel that the cured resin is releasing from the pawn.
5. Remove the entire sheet of cured resin either with just the pawn or using an appropriately protected hand.
6. Cure the resin sheet fully that you removed and dispose of properly. Dispose of both the cured resin AND the pawn as the pawn is most likely attached to the cured sheet.
7. Your release film is now clear of contaminates and you may start another print! Enjoy!
