Why did I design this?

I was having issues printing with TPU filament on cardboard spools, since they do not roll very well on the original spool holder from the S1 and thus exert way too much tension on the filament, so I decided to make (yet another) frictionless spool holder.

What spool sizes does this fit?

It should fit most 1kg spools (max width 67mm), but you can fit larger spools by changing a single parameter in the .f3d file.

How I designed it?

Using parametric modelling in Fusion 360, so it is very easy to modify! Just download the included .f3d file and have some fun adapting it to your specific needs / use cases.

How to print?

I prints in two parts and I recommend you to print both horizontally (as seen in the screenshots from Cura) to get better mechanical properties and avoid any potential problems in the future.

Non-printed parts needed:

You will need two “608 2RS” bearings for the roller. Just be sure to avoid the “slow” ones, which come greased up and have some friction to them. I ordered these ones in Spain and they worked perfectly: https://www.amazon.es/dp/B08XM3RJTL

How to assemble?

Once you have printed both parts, just put a bearing on each side of the roller and gently press fit it with the other printed part (don't worry, you won't need to apply much force as it is easy to press).

Other similar designs:

Although I designed it entirely from scratch, I did gather inspiration from similar models (for example, here is one of the oldest ones I could find of such models, although I'm not sure if that is the original designer).
