Ikea Besta (Bestå) TV Bench Rail Adapter

Most Besta products are compatible with the Besta rail system except the TV bench. This is because the TV bench is missing the side holes for the brackets, and the two centre vertical panels are not deep enough to have bracket holes. Instead they expect users to only use the provided L brackets which make it very hard to align it with wood studs.

This model fixes this by providing bracket holes for the two centre vertical panels.

Is the model strong enough to hold the unit? This is not a load-bearing component. The load is transferred from the rail to the bracket and then to the top of the bench frame, not to the holes which the bracket is attached to. This model positions the brackets in order to sit into the rail.

Requirements

To use this model, you must have the following:

• 1x BESTÅ TV Bench: 004.740.70 or 704.740.62 or 804.740.66
• 3x BESTÅ Suspension rail: 704.883.18
• 3x or more stud screws (I used 4)
• 0, 1, or 2x drywall screws and anchors for the ends as needed (there is very little chance the extreme ends of the rail will intersect a stud)
• Pencil for marking

Printing

Print this model twice in a standing up position such that the layers start in a U shape:

Because this is not a load bearing part, I used 20% infill which was more than enough.

Installation

1. Measure out, assemble, and mount the rail to the wall by following the included instructions. Try to hit as many studs as you can (I hit a total of 4).
   
    
2. Line up the L and R brackets to the very ends of the box and mark out where the two legs need holes. Measure out the depth of the hole such that the drill bit won't penetrate fully through. I used tape on the drill bit to indicate how deep I should drill.
    
3. Proceed to drilling the 4 holes on the left and right panels.
   
    
4. Use the 8 screws that were meant for the box's L brackets and instead use them to attach the 2 printed adapters.
   
    
5. Insert all 6 brackets, 2 into the holes that were drilled, and the other 4 into the printed adapters.
   
    
6. Mount the box onto the rail and secure with the screw and round washer that comes with the rail.
   

I had a tough time getting all the slots and inserts to line up. This was because my wall was not completely straight so I had to bend back some of the inserts and also apply some pressure on the bracket to get some of them to slide in.
