I've been using an adjustable width spool roller for quite some time now, but it's annoying when you change rolls a lot, if they are different in width.
So i decided to make a roller that could fit most spools.

Updates:

  • V2 - 24 April 2021
    • Generally beefed up entire design
    • Removed tapered angle on rollers
    • Added lip on roller edge to avoid roll ‘walking’ into the space between roller and side.

BOM

  • 2x Side_Panel.stl
  • 2x Joiner.stl
  • 4x Roller.stl
  • 4x 608ZZ Bearings (or other matching bearing)
  • 2x 162mm metal rod that fits inside your bearings (i used M8 threaded rod, 5/16th threaded rod should also work)

Print Instructions

Everything was printed using the default "0.35mm Fast" profile in PrusaSlicer, with following changes:

  • 5% Rectilinear Infill
  • 3 Perimeters

Assembly Instructions

Start by laying down both side panel prints and add bearings, they should be a tight press-fit.

Put one side panel aside for later, and add metal rods to the other.

Add 2 rollers to each metal rod, make sure that the flange is pointing outwards towards the bearings.

Insert the 2 Joiner's to the side panel, should be a snug fit, and should not fall out by it self (if its too loose, consider a drop of glue).

Add the last side panel you put aside, and put it on top, and then press the Joiner's into the side panel to secure the whole assembly.

Finished!
