Description

PDF

The bottom weight of the vertical blinds kept breaking repeatedly, and I decided to design my own version that incorporates washers/coins, allowing for easy weight adjustment. The version I created is made to accommodate the dimensions of a 120mm x 50mm part that weighs approximately 41 grams.

Assembly instructions

3D Printing

You can use the following settings as reference:

  • Material: PLA/PETG
  • Supports: None
  • Resolution: 0.2mm Layer Height (using a 0.4mm nozzle)
  • Perimeters: 2
  • Top Layers: 2
  • Bottom Layers: 2
  • Infill: 15%

Tools & Supplies:

In order to accomplish the assembly process you will need the following:

Note: You can use either a 3mm drill bit or an M3 screw. It doesn't matter since both are used to align both parts when gluing them together and will be removed after the glue cures.

Note: The items accessible through the links provided in the list above are meant for illustrative purposes and serve as an example of what can be used, but if you cannot find them in your area, feel free to seek out suitable substitutes.

Steps

Here's a step-by-step guide on how to put all the pieces of the bottom weight together:

  1. Begin by 3D printing the provided parts.
  2. Place washers or coins into the slots of both parts and secure them with glue. This will make it easier to assemble the parts by preventing the washers or coins from falling out during the final glue application.
  3. Once the glue has cured, apply a small amount of glue to both parts and align them. You can use either M3 screws or a 3mm drill bit to insert them into the provided holes for precise alignment.
  4. If you used the screws method to align the parts, you can add nuts and tighten the screws using the hex key to securely fasten the two parts together.
  5. After the glue has fully cured, remove the clamps or the screws and nuts and clean the part of any glue excess.
  6. The bottom weight can now be installed into its designated place.
