Ever been part of a project that you felt just would not die? Commemorate its eventual demise with this spooky project tombstone with Secrets and customisable features.

There are 3 Secrets:

  1. Removing the tombstone from the grassy knoll reveals a secret compartment that can store a small booklet of top secret information
  2. Pulling down on the tab on the right hand side of the tombstone slides open a panel revealing a lithophane that can be viewed by holding up to the light
  3. Turning the grassy knoll upside down seems to show a smooth surface, but shine a light in the opening at the top and an image and initials become visible

Exciting customisable features:

* All text on the tombstone can be customised
* Graphic on the back of the tombstone / hidden on the grassy knoll can be replaced with any .dxf
* Hidden letters at the base of the tombstone can be edited
* Grassy knoll randomises position, rotation, length and angle of all blades of grass each time it is generated, so yours is (almost) certainly unique
* You can insert any 25mm x 25mm x 3.3 mm lithophane

If you choose to print please upload a photo! For more information on my projects visit http://www.jweoblog.com

Instructions

If you just want to print without customisation I have uploaded all the .stls. If you want to customise you will have to use OpenSCAD rather than the Thingiverse customiser as it includes a .dxf (and I think the stencil font is not supported by customiser)

To customise the tombstone and knoll:

  1. Download OpenSCAD
  2. Download all .scad files and the .dxf into the same directory
  3. Open the .scad files and follow the instructions to customise text and image
  4. Compile, export as .stl, print. Note that compiling the knoll takes a long time (~30 mins on my PC)

To make the lithophane:

  1. Download the Processing language from http://www.processing.org
  2. Get amandaghassaei's lithophane script http://www.instructables.com/id/3D-Printed-Photograph/
  3. Follow instructions on Peter Blacker's blog http://www.reprappro.com/creating-lithophanes-guest-blog/
  4. Image for the lithophane needs to have a black boundary to fit neatly in tombstone
  5. Size of lithophane should be 25mm x 25mm x 3.3mm
  6. You can also just use the SkullBW.stl - thanks to Sklmsta for making the skull image Creative Commons (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skull#mediaviewer/File:Caucasian_Human_Skull.jpg)

To assemble:

  1. Refer to gallery photos
  2. Glue a piece of coloured card to the back of lettered part of front half of tombstone to make letters stand out
  3. Glue the secret compartment and lithophane in place in rear half of tombstone
  4. Glue a nice/scary image to the sliding part of the tombstone
  5. Place sliding part in front part of tombstone, carefully glue the pieces together - don't glue the sliding part in place
  6. Pop tombstone in grassy knoll (don't glue unless you want your secret compartment to be REALLY secret)
