The internet is full of guides on how to give a broken 2009 27" iMac a second life by converting it into a standalone monitor. While many solutions often resort to makeshift fixes like hot glue guns, this kit offers a more sophisticated and durable approach. If you appreciate precision and want to avoid the mess and uncertainty of glue, this meticulously designed conversion kit is for you. With custom 3D printable parts, this set allows you to integrate new electronics seamlessly into your old iMac, preserving its iconic design and assuring robustness.

STLs:

  1. Netzteilhalter: A custom-fit holder designed to securely hold the power supply of the new electronics, fitting perfectly onto the original HDD tray location.
  2. Controllerhalter & Inverterhalter: Dedicated mounts that safely house the new PCBs, ensuring stable and proper alignment within the iMac's casing.
  3. Tastenhalterung & Nippelsche: Ingeniously designed to mount the PCB with the OSD buttons, allowing users to access the on-screen display controls via the original memory slots of the iMac.
  4. Kabelbox: An aesthetically designed external extension seamlessly integrating with the iMac's casing. It provides ports for HDMI and DisplayPort connections.
  5. Monitorblock: when you remove too much of the old computer, the display has no more base on which it can rest. So, I built these two blocks to prop up the display.

Components & Materials Required:

  1. Controller/Inverter Kit: It's essential to source a kit compatible with the display model number of your 2009 27" iMac. This kit will contain the necessary electronics to interface with modern display inputs.
  2. Threaded Inserts for M3 Screws: These provide robust and durable mounting points for the new PCBs, ensuring stability and longevity. (We love threaded inserts too!)
  3. HDMI and DisplayPort Extension Cables: Necessary for connecting the internal electronics to the Kabelbox outputs.
