This is my take to make a 3d printed version of the karakuri creation SKYSCRAPERS puzzle.

https://hakone-karakuri.jp/product/skyscrapers/

I do not own the original puzzle and challenged myself to make a printable version of it even without knowing the mechanism.

Extra part are needed:

  • 5 Cilinder magnets 5x3mm (one for each skyscraper)
  • Thin Steel plate : 50x36,5x0,4mm (you should find it in any hardware store and then cut it)
  • spring for pushing back lock mechanism (aprox 7,5mm diameter also when compressed inside will be 10mm lenght so it need to be at least 12mm lenght when not compressed )(maybe a 3d printed spring could work.. i dont know)
  • 2 small screw for fixing the handle (aprox 2.5mm diameter and 10 to 14mm lenght)

SOLUTION:

  1. You have two way to solve it, put the phone led torch behind the skyscrapers to cast the shadow until it fit with the one drawn.
  2. Close one of your eye and use the other to line up the shadows perspective

PRINTING:

Printing orintation on attached image.

You need to print one for each file and 4 of the normal skyscraper without the H on top.

ASSEMBLY:

1.

Shadow must be glued.

2.

Glue magnet into skyscrapers hole.

3.

Cut the steel or any ferromagnetic plate to dimension and glue it in place.

4.

Attacch frontal with screws if need use just a bit of glue.

5.

Put one by one from the frontal opening the skyscrapers and slide them up in place.

6.

When all skyscreper are in check the order with the H at second place from left.

Then insert the locking block if too loose just put an tip of glue :)

7.

Set the skyscrapers in the correct position

This way you will be able to Insert the "keylock" from the front, when in position  slide it to the left.

8.

Put inside the spring in the notch.

Maybe use some small pliers it could be a little tricky.

9.

Insert the keylock “locking piece” with a tip of glue.

This is not essential but give the key lock more rigidity when the solver pull too hard on the handle…

10.

When skyscrapers are still in solved position insert the drawer and it will click close into place.

END

Hope evryone likes it :)
