I enjoy geocaching, like solving puzzles and enjoy 3D design so thought I would combine them all into one model. This is a gadget cache, one where you must solve the puzzle before you can sign the log. The design is based on the type of puzzle called ‘skyscrapers’ a link to a description of this puzzle type can be found here, there is also a brief description of it in the video below.
I have designed the puzzle to be as interactive and customisable as possible. The holes in the top of the dials which you use the key to turn can also double as holes to place your skyscrapers in to help you solve the puzzle. You are also not limited to one puzzle solution, as the dials are independent of the lid you can change the combination at any time. The clues are written on the lid in permanent texta so that it can be removed with IPA when the combination changes.
As a mechanical puzzle with many moving parts the assembly can be quite complicated. You can find an assembly video here. Apart from the 3D printed parts, you will need the following hardware
6 x M3 x 12mm dome top bolt
6 x M3 washer
6 x M3 x 3 x 4.5 mm heat set insert
8 x M6 x 30 mm dome top bolt
8 x M6 nut
If you have any questions please let me know.
