Riding my Xiaomi Mijia M365 electric scooter for longer than a few minutes quickly made my thumb a bit numb. While I am fully aware that this scooter has cruise control, I prefer having full control of the throttle at all times, so I never really liked that function.
Replacing my handlebar grips with a set made for bicycles with a twist gear shift (123mm and 95mm long) gave me some room to spare for extending the throttle with this add-on. Shortening one of the original grips would probably work just as well.
Some prototyping back and forth made me realize that the most comfortable grip would need a softer outer shell, so I split the design into two parts, for two different filaments (soft shell and rigid core). However, I have also uploaded an untested solid version for completeness, since the tight fit between the shell and core probably wouldn't work for a rigid shell.
My soft shell was printed in Overture TPU 95A, and my core was printed in add:north PETG, both in 0.20mm with a 0.4mm nozzle (old, knurled model was printed in add:north EasyFlex TPU and add:north PETG Pro Matte). The core doesn't need any supports if the print is paused at (the start of) the 22.20mm layer (22.10mm if using 0.15mm layers) to add the shell (the 3MF file is pre-configured for this if opened in Prusa Slicer), so I recommend to print the soft shell first.
The add-on is attached to the M365 throttle with double sided tape (~1mm thick gel tape recommended) or glue. Alternatively, you can print the replacement side cover plate and glue onto that instead of the original part. (Getting the original part off can be a bit tricky, the easiest way I've found so far is to attach this add-on to it with double sided tape and pull…) Adjust the throttle mounting position (there's a 3mm hex screw accessible from the bottom) to make sure the add-on isn't rubbing/binding against the handlebar grip.
After using this for a while, I decided to tweak the design a bit after the adhesive I had used to attach mine failed. New version uploaded with the following changes:
Note that the new shell is only compatible with the new core and the old shell is only compatible with the old core.
Also included is now a printable (optional) replacement for the original throttle side cover, in case you don't want to glue onto the original part. It's split into four parts so that its snap hooks can be printed in optimal orientation.
