This project is for a simple DIY Unipivot Tonearm that I designed. The pivot can be made as you wish but I chose to use Stew Nelless' ball point pen pivot he designed and posted on DIYAudio as user Nanook. Many thanks to Stew for this ingenious concept!
Can be used as a replacement or for new build.
These are the printed parts you will need to make a tonearm using two arrow shafts. This is still evolving and can be customized.
Concept:
In action:
Parts needed:
• Gold Tip XT Velocity 300 Arrow Shafts (2)
• 3mm x 4mm heat set screw inserts (3)
• 3mm bolt cut to length for pivot
• Good quality ballpoint pen refill
• Cartridge and 3mm mounting screws
• 3M heavy duty double sided tape
• Epoxy and CA
• Holes for wiring will need to be drilled
• Foam dampening inside tubes is recommended. Small pieces.
- The front cover should be epoxied to the holder. The rear cover is adhered with double side. tape as is the weight cover.
-The carbon tubes can be secured with a few drops of CA or press fit as desired.
-The heat set screw inserts are for cartridge bolts and pivot.
-I grounded the two carbon tubes by connecting them the the left ground connection on the cartridge
-The pivot spacer is used to measure the distance from the spindle to the pivot/ballpoint pen refill
-The needle tip to pivot centre must measure 12"/304.8mm
-I use Cura and used 50% infill with great results. Polymaker Polylite at 210 deg.
A video will be made soon and posted here, but the assembly is quite simple.
And, happy for folks to make and enjoy but if you wish to produce commercially , please contact me.
Added Phat Carbon Arm Holder Front only for wider cartridges.
