After numerous visits to campsites I decided to design and print a suitable water filling system that allowed easy water filling at the camp water points. The design includes capability to fill from hose connection or water containers via the funnel, this allows water filling when too far away from the water point. I have used this system extensively throughout the UK and Europe and has performed really well. The only addition required is to purchase a simple Hozelock #2158 BSP Threaded Tap Connector from local DIY or Garden store. I had originally included this part in the design of the Water Filler part, however after a period of use the tip of the connector would break (unfortunately a limitation of 3D printing).
The system is intended for RV/Motorhome/Campervans with 80mm water inlet - see photograph with dimension shown. For storage and when travelling all the parts can be stored within the funnel.
The system comprises of 6 parts as follows:
Water Filler
This simply rotates onto the water inlet, it is slightly loose to allow for tolerances with the moulding supplied by the vehicle manufacturers. For filling close to a water point simply connect the Hozelock connector, then connect the hose and your are good to go. Print the part with supports.
BSP Connector
This connector has a print in place end piece to allow rotation of the part when connecting the funnel - see photograph with see-through end piece. By removing the Hozelock connector and using this custom designed connector allows the funnel to be fitted in correct orientation. Print the part with supports, then remove from printer bed and “crack” the end piece to remove the support material, remove all support material and clean the area.
Funnel
When remote from the water point fitting the funnel to the BSP connector allows filling from water containers. Print the part with no supports required.
Lid
The lid is used when filling remotely from the water point, simply screw to the funnel, this prevents debris/insects from entering when away collecting further containers of water. The lid is also used to keep all the parts within the funnel. Print the part with no supports.
Blank Cap
This is required to protect the funnel end threads from damage when stored. Print the part with no supports.
Tap Washer
I decided to design and print my own washers, total of 3 are required for the system, alternatively they can be purchased at local DIY or Garden store (Hozelock part). Print the part with no supports, I used Ninjaflex TPU for these parts.
I printed all the parts (except washers) in Prusament PETG Prusa Orange and all came out really well. Parts were printed with 4 perimeters and 40% infill.
