The ESP8285 IR board is roughly an ESP8266-compatible microcontroller with an IR blaster and receiver found on Aliexpress, Amazon, and Ebay for cheap. This board is used in home automation, particularly with ESPHome.

This was created as part of a project for an IR-controlled fan.

Project Requirements:

  • Micro-USB board measuring 13mm x 14mm(see photo)
  • Soldering iron
  • Wire
  • Clear PLA. Other colors can allegedly work but your IR distance may be diminished.

Printing Instructions:

  1. Top Piece: Print this part upside down with supports and all walls. Avoid using infill to maintain surface aesthetics.
  2. Bottom Piece: Print with the micro-USB port facing upwards for optimal results.

Assembly Steps:

  1. Solder the 5V and ground wires to the top of the USB micro board and to the bottom of the IR board.
  2. Carefully slide the USB micro board into the bottom piece.
  3. Insert the IR board into the top housing, aligning the ESP board side with the notch.
  4. Press-fit the bottom piece into the top housing for a secure fit.
