Now that hunting season is once again upon us I wanted to make a basic shotgun holder that I can use while sitting in a blind. This basic gun mount can be used on Atv racks or heavy duty folding chairs with a tube diameter of 7/8". This can also be used for any longer tool like an axe, shovel, walking sticks or even fishing rods.

You will need some additional hardware( per complete mount):

-1 x 10-24 machine screws 2" long ( this will need to be trimmed to fit later)

-4 x 10-24 machine screw 1 ½" long ( you can trim these if desired but its not required)

-5x 10-24 ny-lock nuts

-1 length of 1/8" bungee cord approximately 6-12" long ( this will vary based on your needs)

    Optional

- cord slide to fit bungee cord

-zipper style cord stop to secure bungee cord ends

-red loctite ( highly recommended for swivel to cradle connection)

-electrical tape ( you may require some shimming to attach the clamp as tubing thickness can vary slightly)

- foam tape to protect what ever you use in the cradle.

When printing I recommend the following

-PETG ,ABS or similar filaments

-minimum of 5 wall thickness

-50% infill on the cradle to allow some flex

-100% infill on the swivel and clamp for strength

To assemble you simply :

  •  Insert the  2" screw through the hole in the cradle.
  • Insert the swivel to cradle then attach a ny lock nut making sure it rests properly in the indent at the bottom of the swivel.
  • Tighten the screw and nut together until you get a nice firm fit between the cradle and swivel. You should be able to rotate the piece but it should take some force.
  • Mark the excess screw threads, disassemble then cut away the excess threads. NOTE this is important to ensure a correct fit later. the threads must no extend past the bottom of the swivel or it will break later.
  • Re-assemble but this time apply some red loctite to the threads where it meets the ny-lock nut. If this nut comes loose you will need to disassemble the whole unit to reattach it. Try not to swivel the unit until the loctite is dry.
  • Test fit the clamp onto the tubing. At this point it should just touch the tubing, it should not be tight as the clamp will tighten when compressed with the screws. If it fits loose you can add some wraps of electrical tape to increase the diameter of the tubing.
  • Insert the remaining 1 ½" screws through the swivel into the clamp.
  • Attach ny-lock nuts making sure they rest in the indents on the clamp. You can also apply some loctite here if you wish.
  • Tighten as required. You only want screws tight enough to prevent the clamps from moving.  too much force will cause the swivel the break or possibly even cause the tubing to buckle.
  • Run bungee cord through the ring on the cradle. Apply cord lock  and cord stop if desired or simply tie a knot at the desired point.
  • Rest what ever object you intend to secure into the cradle and attach the other end of the bungee cord into the corresponding hook on the cradle.

If you are using this to secure a firearm please follow all safety rules and be sure to follow all applicable laws in your area. I make no claims that is considered to be a “firearm's retention device” or  “firearm locking device”. Please use proper supervision if used around children and do not leave any firearms unattended in plain view.

If you found this useful please like and post a make. If you find any changes would be useful please let me know and I will try to make them.

Happy hunting!
