Inspiration of Intent

When considering an upgrade to enhance the part cooling capabilities of my printer, I prioritize two key aspects: notably reduced noise compared to the stock configuration and the ability to achieve higher printing speeds due to more efficient cooling. During my exploration of various upgrade options, I discovered that substituting the part cooling fan with a 4020 blower-style fan significantly improved acoustic performance while providing only a marginal increase in print speed.

A lot of folks favor the 5015 blower fans; however, I personally experimented with a couple of different models for a few months and found them to be excessively loud in comparison to a 4020 blower fan. Even when operating at half-speed, they emit a higher-pitched sound reminiscent of the stock fan, which drives me nuts since my printer sits right at my desk.


Description  

Recognizing the growing popularity of dual fan part cooling setups, I embarked on a design journey with a goal of creating a versatile solution accommodating two 4020 blower fans for part cooling and one 4020 axial fan for the heatsink. This design not only optimizes cooling performance at a quieter configuration than stock but also includes secure tie-down points for neat cable management.

I use the NathBuildsRobots Modder Board and drew inspiration of the 4020 axial cooling from his 4020 mod but the board is not necessary if you know how to wire the fans in parallel.  I'm still making fine adjustments but I'm really enjoying it.

Printing

Print with heat-resistant filament (PETG or ABS). I printed vertically in PETG with a .6mm nozzle, .24mm layer height, 15% infill, 75mm/s, and 15% support density for a successful 5.5-hour print. I did a print with a .4mm nozzle with the same settings and it took 8 hours. Printing the 4020 axial mount facing the build plate may speed up the process, but I prioritized hole accuracy.
