This is a replacement case for my General Tools SAE drill bit set that was included with the General Tools drill press I bought ages ago. The original case was made of red molded plastic with a transparent plastic pop-up cover. This case can accommodate a set of 21 SAE drill bits from size 1/16" to 3/8" in 1/64th increments. The holes were carefully adjusted to fit each drill bit snugly but loosely enough so they can be pulled out and replaced easily. Also, any given drill bit will not fit in a location designated for a smaller size bit.
My goal for this design was to make it compatible with the ubiquitous Gridfinity system for those who just need to organize SAE drill bits as part of a shop-only toolset without sacrificing the portablity of the original case for people like me who often need to bring their tools to a job site. The friction fit cover prevents spilling and/or mixing up the drill bits during transport. The original dimensions make for a very tight fit so a bit of sanding of the case corners may be required to obtain an ideal fit. Another possibility is to (very) slightly scale up the cover in the X and Y directions in your slicer before generating the G-code.
I originally meant to add embossed lettering next to the holes to designate each drill size but after making a test print, I decided against it because the results were not to my satisfaction: the numbers turned out blurry and not well defined at all (even with a 0.4mm nozzle and 0.2mm layer height). So instead, I designed 3 custom label strips in P-Touch Editor for my Brother PT-E500 label maker - one for each row of drill bits. I have included a zip file with the lbx label files for those who can use them. You need 6mm TZe tape and a Brother label printer that can be recognized by the P-Touch editor through a USB or Bluetooth interface.
