I hate donut spare tires. They aren't as bad as a spray can inflator, but a full size spare is much better.
I recently had a flat on my 2016 Kia Soul, so I got to try out the donut spare. Not a pleasant experience. I actually kept my speed under 25mph for more than 15 miles and stopped every couple of miles to check up on the tire. I just trusted it that little!
Replacing the donut spare with a full sized spare is easy enough, as long as you have a 3d printer. The part I've posted here is the retainer assembly that holds the spare tire in place in the spare storage area. The key point is that the original retainer's bolt (which is permanently mounted to the assembly) is too short.
Print this part and CA glue an M8-1.25 x 80 Hex Cap Screw (I got mine at Home Depot) into the part, and you're ready to go. If you make it, use filament that can deal with higher temperatures than PLA (I chose PETG), and give it a few extra walls, since you may need to use a lug nut wrench to mount (or unmount) it to overcome vibration.
This part is a bit bigger than the original so that it fits better.
