To follow on from and finish off my Ultimate Prusa MK4 casing I wanted to create a center tray similar to the original for the MK3 version. I was shown this cable cover and wanted to take this design and use it as the basis for the whole tray. Like the original cable cover this model prints in vase mode with no bottom layers and is installed by clipping into the top of the extrusions. The print is nice and quick and doesn't use a lot of material because of this. The downside however is that it can be a bit of a pain to fit. Because of this I've tried to document the installation as best as possible using the images below.

Update 27/10/2023: added a second tray option that has fins in the centre to protect the Y belt from any items you may wish to store in the tray. Thank you very much for the great idea @WalesJames_959856.

Update 19/01/2024: added a V2 version of the tray that has a slightly more positive snap in to the extrusion channel and a recess to improve Y bearing holder clearance and a rework to allow the tray to work with this Y belt tensioner. Thank you for the valued feedback @b4de4nd and @grtych_1550209

Update 22/01/2024: even more clearance added to V2 version to maximise compatibility options with different Y belt tensioners.

Update 24/01/2024: two new versions added to be tested for clearing the cable bundle on enclosure setup printers. Thanks to @BarryRobbins_1010240 for highlighting the need of a different model for the different cable routing and testing the files out for me.

Update 24/04/2024: increased belt clearance and added clearance rads where the bottom of the tray gets close to the LCD cables. Thank you to @Joekams_1568853 for pointing out these issues and the clear descriptions helped out massively. These files are now up as V2.5. I have also added the extra clearance to the enclosure versions (also listed as V2.5).

Installation

  1. Remove filament and any other loose items from your printer and power it off.
  2. Turn your printer over onto its PSU side.
  3. Insert the centre tray from underneath the printer at the cable side making sure the two cut outs are at the front of the printer.
  4. Check to make sure that the zip tie at the rear of the tray is inside the cover profile.
  5. On the other side of the tray make sure that it passes between the two bolts as shown by the image. This can be a bit fiddly and require the flexing of the tray to persuade it between the bolts. To make life easier the top two display mounts can be removed instead of having to feed the tray between them (thank you @imprimador_1127382 for this revelation).
  6. Now seat this side of the tray into the top extrusion slot and apply pressure to make sure it snugs in and is flush along the whole length.
  7. Now the fun really starts. Fitting the other side is the mirror of the first side apart from the fact that it looks like it won't fit. However because this is printed in vase mode the model is surprisingly flexible (see the image). We use this to our advantage and flex the tray so that we can fit the edge in over the top of the extrusion as before.
  8. Again make sure that the zip tie is in the cover channel and that the tray fits between the two bolts as before.
  9. Now seat this side of the tray into the top extrusion slot and apply pressure to make sure it snugs in and is flush along the whole length.
  10. Check to make sure that the indent of the tray is against the front of the frame.
  11. Finally check to make sure that the bed clears the cover and enjoy your finished tray.

Thank you so much for your previous work allowing this to happen.
