I had to solve my problem of filament jumping the side walls of the spool when >75% full and thought I'd share. The filament guide is reversible with respect to the holder to feed either direction.

SLICE A SMALL PORTION TO ENSURE SNUG BODEN TUBE FITMENT BEFORE COMMITTING  TO THE FULL PRINT. Use the X-Y hole compensation settings (or similar) to adjust the hole sizes to fit correctly. Use negative volumes to cut out a small section of the filament holder to just get the tube through hole.

The filament guide was… inspired by the Prusa Mk4 filament guide. I have included a step file so you can modify it to suit your needs, go nuts and no need to use the same license as this. I only ask you to share your work with the community!

This is a remix and shared under the same license out of respect to the original author as I pretty much left the actual spool holder untouched. You'll need that spool holder for this, so go download it. Standing on the shoulders of giants and all.

ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS:

You'll need (filament guide only):

  • M5x16mm Button Head Screw
  • M5 Hex Nut
  • M3x6x4mm Brass Heat Set Insert
  • M3x16mm Button Head Screw (if using the heat insert)
  • M3x20mm Button Head Screw (if not using the heat insert)
  • M3 Hex Nut (if not using the heat insert)
  • At least 10mm of 4mm outer diameter Bowden tubing (I recommend 3mm inner diameter, but 2mm inner diameter will work)
  1. Insert Bowden tubing into the outer two holes of the filament holder as shown in the pictures. It should be real snug, but not damaging the tube. The length is totally up to you, but I wouldn't allow it to extend above the top lip of the filament holds so it stays out of the way.

  2. Insert the heat set insert as shown in the picture in the larger hole of the guide mounting bracket. Alternatively, you could use a longer M3 screw and a hex nut.

  3. Insert the guide mounting bracket into the slot on the end of the filament guide. The brass insert faces down when assembled. Fasten the two parts together using the a M5 screw and M5 hex nut using the cutouts not he side of the filament guide.

  4. Insert the mounting bracket through the filament holder stem as shown in the pictures. Insert the M3 screw through the top hole and screw it into the brass insert (or tighten the hex bolt if not using the insert) until it's snug. Take care to not over tighten this joint as it's likely to snap under excessive force.

  5. Insert PTFE tubing into the dual filament holder to act as a contact surface for the spools to slide on.
