Lovely beach with a realistic coconut palm tree. A coconut has dropped and is lying on the beach. Inspired by a real australian coconut tree. The trunc is wider at the bottom for maximum stability in the loose sand.

Please find detailed assembly instructions below. Some glue is needed. All parts are designed to be printed without any supports. The assembly is easy due to the internal trunk stabilizer.

2023-04-15 Added ocean

The ocean comes in 2 flavours:

  • Ocean V1.stl: Simple ocean around the island. Looking very realistic.
  • Ocean for 3DBenchy V1.stl: Looking for a spot to put your 3DBenchy test print? Here it is! This ocean has a resting place for it right beneath the lovely island.

Enjoy printing this object.

Notes:

Do not go crazy fast with any of the parts, as this is a precision model. I have printed the leaves and the beach with 80 mm/s and the trunk parts with 40 mm/s.

Please use a 0.4 mm nozzle.

Print "Palm leaf V1.stl" 24 times in a green colour.

Print "Palm trunk segment 1.stl" 13 times in a brown colour.

Print all other items once.

The beach should have a light gray or white colour for a sandy beach or a darker gray colour for a rocky beach.

Post-Printing

Palm assembly part 1

Take the biggest trunk part and the beach. Put some glue into the rectangular hole.

Palm assembly part 2

Put some glue at the bottom of the trunk part and glue it on the beach as shown in the picture.

Palm assembly part 3

Put the wider part of the trunk stabilizer into the rectangular hole. It has a tight fit. Make sure to push it down to the limit. The top of the stabilizer should point upwards as shown on the picture.

Palm assembly part 4

Glue the next smaller sized trunk parts. It is also possible not to use any glue for these, as they cannot escape.

Palm assembly part 5

Add the first of the 13 small sized trunk parts. No glue is needed.

Palm assembly part 6

Add more of the 13 small sized trunk parts. No glue is needed.

Palm assembly part 7

Add all trunk parts. At the top the last part should be flush with the stabilizer.

Palm assembly part 8

Take the palm heart and check if all the holes for the leaves can actually hold a leave. If not use a pointy item to enlarge the problematic holes. No enlargement is required for my printer but I cannot guarantee this for all printers and slicer settings.

Glue the palm tree heart to the top of the stabilizer. It should sit nicely in the upper most trunk part.

Palm assembly part 9

Your palm now should look like shown in the picture. Let the glue dry.

Palm assembly part 10

Now try to bend 20 of the palm leaves a bit to give them a more realistic look. Depending on the material you are using, this should be an easy task. Wrap the leaf around your finger for some time.

Palm assembly part 11

The leaves should have a little curve.

Palm assembly part 12

When you are finished you should have 20 leaves with a bend and 4 without. The 4 without bend are for the very top.

Palm assembly part 13

Now comes the fun part. Glueing the leaves to the palm heart. Start with the bottom 5 leaves. They sould be bended downwards.

Palm assembly part 14

When the first row is finished it should look like shown in the picture. The holes for the leaves are facing downwards.

Palm assembly part 15

Glue the second row with 5 leaves. They are facing horizontal.

Palm assembly part 16

Please note that there is a bigger hole in the third row from the bottom. Do not populate this hole with a leaf. It is designed for a future branch with coconuts :)

Palm assembly part 17

When you have glued the lower 4 rows of leaves there are only the 4 top leaves remaining. They are facing straight upwards.

Palm assembly part 18

Now all leaves are in place.

Palm assembly part 19

Glue the coconut to the hole in the beach. The coconut has a flat side which faces downwards.

Palm assembly part 20

If you like you can print an ocean around your coconut tree. Choose "Ocean V1.stl" for a simple ocean or "Ocean for 3DBenchy V1.stl" for an ocean with a resting place for your 3DBenchy.

The ocean is best printed in a blue color.

Raw coconut

This is a raw coconut which has never seen a supermarket. This is exactly how they fall from the tree. There is a hard fibre like structure around the actual coconut.
