The Honest John model rocket takes inspiration from the MGR-1 Honest John rocket, the first nuclear-capable surface-to-surface rocket in the United States arsenal. This rocket was designed and prototyped for use with Estes 24mm D12-3 and D12-5 motors, and Estes 3/16" rod launch pad. The rocket is 42mm in diameter (52mm at its widest), it has a total length of 23", it weighs 185 grams with the motor installed, and it will fly 700+ feet. It is 3D printed in ABS plastic and it is made up of 5 parts; the nose cone assembly, the body tube assembly, the base fins, and the motor cap. There is also a tool included to install and uninstall the motor cap due to its recessed flush mount design. For reference I included an image of the Open Rocket design file.
Assembly: Test fit parts before assembly, make any adjustments needed with sand paper. Glue Base Ring to Base Fins. Install shock cord on Lower Tube Mount. Glue Lower Tube to Upper Tube. Glue Tube assembly to Base Fins. Glue Nose Cone Upper to Nose Cone Lower. Attach the shock cord to Nose Cone Base, and then add the parachute.
