Update 2023-09-01

I've made the required tweaks and re-printed, everything now fits like it should.

However, I tried this model on 3 different machines and it fitted slightly different in each, it seems not all chassis and housing were perfectly identical so you may need to trim the height of the clips to fit the cut outs in the metal chassis.

You might also need to “bend” out the arms slightly to make sure they apply enough pressure to retain themselves as I've noticed that the original bay covers also were at a slight angle.

I have removed the horizontal ribs from the shell as they are not required to support the roof after all and I have corrected the orientation of the clips, though they could still be made a little wider to ensure a secure fit.

Update 2023-08-29

I test printed it last night and it looks great, however, I do need to make a few adjustments.

  • The clip prongs are facing the wrong way
  • Make it 1mm wider overall,
  • Remove the horizontal ribs since they don't seem to be needed to print well
  • Increase the thickness of the strip running across the top by 1 mm
  • Decrease the horizontal groove depth by 1 mm

About

Modelled in Fusion, from an original bay cover that I own.

I created this because the covers that are in the machine I am restoring, the tabs that hold it in place are broken.

It is nearly 100% exact in measurements but I have taken the liberty of increasing the strength and thickness of the tabs in certain places to ensure they don't break and print properly.

Based on lessons learned from my earlier Virgo tower blanks, I added some ribs to the hollow interior so that it should be able to print the roof without supports if your printer can do bridges about 1cm without sagging, which is to say around 95% of printers.

Next thing I need to do is some CD-ROM drive face replacements.
