It's a tale as old as time, I couldn't bear to spend the 5$ on a common product. So, I set out to print one. The design requirement was to only use 3D printed parts. I first tried a ridged nozzle but realized it would be hard to seal without an O-ring. I could try to print an O-ring but instead I attempted to print a nozzle entirely from TPU. Before doing this, I chose to design a spiral vase print as that would minimize the material used. The print sealed much better than the ridged version but soon expanded to the point it slid off the hose. Finally, I decided to try and capture the best of both previous attempts with a hybrid material design. Using a spiral vase inner nozzle shape with a ridged collar to prevent unwanted expansion.
There is still leaking, but it is minimal even at pressure. Future iterations will attempt to use the expanding force to create a better seal.
