This is a "build in place" telescoping cup cover/coaster. It will sit flat when used as a coaster and will telescope over the rim when used as a cup cover. It is great for keeping those pesky bugs out of your cup when eating outside. It also acts as a fun fidget spinner.

Features:

  • Generous 4.5" diameter, can handle most cups and mugs!
  • The outer ring can be removed if the lip on the edge is not desired.
  • Telescopes in one direction.
  • Reduce chance of water rings on table.
  • Reduces temperature loss when used as a cover.
  • Prevent unwanted bugs and debris from entering cup.
  • Act as lid to prevent spills.
  • Fun to play with.

I built this using ASA to made sure it can handle hot beverages, but I think almost any filament would be fine.  A textured build plate will give it a nice non-slip finish. This is a “build in place” model with no supports needed.

Models:

  • cupcover.stl  - Full model in STL format
  • cupcover.step - Full model in STEP format
  • Telescopic.stl- Inner model in STL format
  • Lip.stl - - Outer lip model in STL format

If the model cannot be printed in place due to tight tolerances between the outer lip and the inner telescopic part, these parts can be printed separately using the Telescopic and Lip files.

How to assemble and use:

The model is printed with the top face down on the bed. This will give a nice texture if using a textured build plate.

When used as a coaster or cup cover, the top face (touching the build plate), will be facing up. When used as a coaster, it will sit flat on the table. When used as a cover, the rings will telescope down over the rim of the cup.
