Mix and match compartments into the 6 sectors of this pencil cup (including double and triple sector compartments). There are also sectors with hedgehog-style pen slots to the side or some with compartments for small parts.

The “slightly over-engineered” label mostly refers to how the horizontal floor in those upper small compartments of some of the parts is made. If you are interested in vase mode techniques you might want to take a look; it's interesting to watch how that shelf gets printed (actual printing is not required though, just slice it in your slicer and play with the layer/height slider).

The image shows a model with 7cm diameter (and 10 cm height), but since I found that a tad to small, the actual model is a bit wider (8cm diameter).

Printing:

  • Choose/print parts to fill the 6 sixth-sectors, and 2 cap rings.
  • vase mode
  • 3 bottom layers
  • cap/ring: 0 bottom layers
  • advanced → extrusion width: 0.6mm
  • advanced → slice gap closing radius: 0.01mm (or less)
  • I used a 0.4mm nozzle, 0.2mm layer height, Prusament PLA (galaxy black, marble grey, bronze blend)

Assembly: Place the sector parts accurately on the table, screw top ring on, then turn over and screw bottom ring on. The cap rings need to be oriented correctly: the side that was on the print bed belongs to the very top or very bottom of the pen holder.
