Why
- I wanted to make a spool holder that wasn't fiddly - I wanted it to be stout, and universal (or at least agnostic to what particular diameter and width the spools were).
- Most of the Cardboard Spools I use are Overture brand, and I wanted to make sure that I worked out a good way to adapt them to work with my new Spool Mount as well (more on that further down)
Features
- Easy to print, easy to assemble
- Easy to load and unload spools, still with one hand
- Holds spool on one side only, so you can use .5, 1, 2, even 3kg spools
- Can be mounted inside our outside enclosure
- Lightweight, but sturdy, not visually heavy
- Mini Spool Holder, this can be used instead of the Standard Spool Holder to accommodate mini (500g) Spools. - but also works with 1 KG Spools.
- The Hybrid Stacked Spool Holder model is a combined piece that integrates the Catch Mount and a Spool Holder so you can print more efficiently all the pieces to stack 2, 3, 4, or however many spools you want vertically in your spools.

Other Tips
- Due to the weight of a full spool, cardboard spools may develop flat spots, but I have found that printing the Polymaker Cardboard Spool adapter to put a plastic ring around the outer edge mitigates this issue entirely.
- My intended use was to mount 1 inside my enclosure on either side of my printer, and additionally to mount multiple stacked on the wall next to my other printer so that I can stage ahead of time for filament changes, as well as to support multiple spools for use with MMU3 or other multi-material configurations.
