PRINT: magnet side UP and according to the Voron Design recommended print settings! If you print ABS enclosed, make sure you use a little more part cooling than you would normally do. This will greatly benefit the overhangs of this part.
This handle improves several things compared to the original. It's sturdier, attached more securely to the doorpanel and it increases the closing force of the door, because it makes better use of the VHB tape.
I made this handle because my LDO V0-S1 kit has 4 small pockets in the doorpanel that the magnets sit in. This is a big advantage, because the magnets in the door are now closer to the ones in the doorlatch, so the door is held shut more firmly. However, the original handle doesn't make use of this and requires you to cover the magnets behind the VHB tape and then stick it to the door. In the case of the LDO panel this makes for a very weak bond, because the pockets that are machined into the panel will not provide much contact area for the tape. My handle fixes this by using VHB tape in the middle while holding the magnets captive against the doorpanel.
There are two main versions. Normal and LDO. For both there is a compact version (few millimetres smaller in all dimensions) and a version with adjusted VHB tape clearance (ThinnerTape, if you tape isn't thick enough).
This handle is designed for the 10mm wide and 1.1mm thick 3M VHB tape that was included my LDO kit. If you have VHB tape that is thinner/thicker than this, please let me know so I can make a different version for you.
Installation is simple:
1: Check your printed part. Voron parts are printed with 4 walls and might have overextrusion on areas with lots of walls together. Overextrusion on the top layer will throw off the carefully designed clearance for the magnets and VHB tape. If you notice overextrusion, carefully sand/file off the excess.
2: Remove old handle and VHB tape (soaking in WD-40 helps, afterwards use a flat blade to carefully scrape it off)
3: Place the magnets into the handle (normal version) or place the magnets into the pockets on the doorpanel (LDO version). Mind the magnet polarity.
4: Cut to length a piece of VHB tape (the length of the tape area is 68mm, use a little less) and place onto the handle. Check that the tape isn't too thin for the handle. You can do this by pushing and dragging the handle with the tape onto a flat surface and looking/feeling carefully. Basically, the tape should protrude a tiny amount so it can make contact with the panel. Make sure the protective plastic is still on the tape when you do this.
5: Remove the protective plastic form the tape and carefully place the handle onto the doorpanel. Push firmly when you're sure the placement is good. To be safe you can remove the door from the printer and place onto a stable surface. Again, make sure you're happy with the placement.
