Curved Desiccant Box

I tried a couple desiccant boxes that fit inside the spool hub, but when I put the spool inside a vacuum bag, it looked like the desiccant container was sealed from the actual filament. I decided to build a container that would wrap around the outside of the spool, allowing a better interaction with the filament.

This desiccant box will fit spools that are greater than 1.5" tall. The curvature is designed for a 200mm diameter spool. It is built where anywhere from 1 to 4 boxes can be used on an individual 200mm spool. For smaller spool diameters, it should be possible to use only 1 or 2.

Although this design concept may appear to work better, I have not done any testing to prove that this design is any better than the hub style and would welcome and comments from people that may want to test both methods. 

These desiccant boxes were built using PLA with no supports. It might be better to build the boxes using a higher temp filament so that the desiccant could be rejuvenated in an oven without removing it from the container. 

This is not a build in place model. If loading the “desiccant box” stl or step file, please separate the objects and lay the lid flat with the finger bumps facing up. Individual STL files are also provided.
