I wanted an easy-to-use and easy-to-print scoop that gives great control for putting desiccant pearls into various Dry Boxes inside my Bambu Lab AMS without needing an extra funnel. The only scoops I found were too hard to use, too hard to print, and often wasted material. That prompted me to come up with this new design.

Design Considerations

Ergonomics

To allow for portioning small things into small spaces, such as desiccant pearls into a small container, the design has little spouts. Having one on each side means you can easily tilt your wrist to empty the scoop with a lot of control into a small spot, no matter whether you are right- or left-handed. It should allow you to be so precise you never need an extra funnel.

The top of the handle features some grooves to secure your grip. A hole at the end of the handle could be used to hang the scoop somewhere. Alternatively, the model could be remixed to include a magnet here.

Printability

The shape of the scoop has been specifically designed to be printable without support. In total, the model took me only 12g of filament

Printing Instructions

While it should be fairly simple to print, here are some things I considered when printing mine:

  • I used PLA
  • orient the scoop upside down (i.e., opening on the print bed)
  • 0.16mm layer height
  • 4 wall loops
  • 15% grid infill
  • printed without a brim, even though Bambu Studio slicer recommends a brim
