This is the 3rd version of a DIY 5K monitor build I've been working on. See v2 here

I wanted a good 5K monitor but didn't want to spend $1600 on an Apple Studio Display or $1300 on an LG Ultrafine. It turns out they use basically the same panel and you can order it from China for around $250. Then the driver board costs around $250 and that's all you really need to get a 5K monitor for ~$500 (plus shipping). Originally, I just screwed the panel on a piece of plywood but I've been iterating on different backplate designs. This is my most recent version. Adding keyholes to the back that fit M5 screw heads lets me hang anything on the back. So I updated the driver board enclosure to hang on the back and also made a side mount for my 2K side monitor (An old retina MacBook Pro 15" display). This let me use the laptops display's hinges to attach it to the side mount on the 5K monitor using the keyholes on the backside. I'm trying to source another 2K display for the right side.

Let me know what you guys think. Any ideas? Thought? Leave a comment. This is an ongoing build so it will evolve over time.

Will add parts list once I have this build complete. I'm still working on the video of this one so I'll update this with the link once it's uploaded. For now, here are the videos I have so far featuring previous parts of this build:
