This automatic door closer is a simple, supportless pulley system that uses a counterweight to close your doors. It does not require as much filament or bearings as the other designs and is very easy to set up.

This pulley is compatible with doors that have 3+ mm of clearance between the top of the door and the frame. The attachment point can be simply glued down to the top corners of the door or held in place with double-sided tape.

Required non-printed parts:

  1. Fishing line or any other type of cord

     2. A weight. It can be anything as long as it is not too heavy or too light and you can tie a              cord to it. ~0.5L bottles are recommended.

    3. Double-sided tape or 2x 6mm screws. You can mount the pulley using double-sided tape         or simply screw it to the wall if you so choose.

    4. Binder clip

If you find that the pulley doesn't close the door all the way, try adding more weight. I've also noted that keeping a window open will allow the door to close and latch properly as there is enough air to replace what the door displaces.

EDIT:

After using it for a while, I've found that the fishing line will eventually wear through the pulley to the point it gets stuck when the weight goes back down. To counter this, I suggest clipping a binder clip as shown in the last photo. I've also found that this solution makes the whole system smoother and quieter as there is no longer any friction on the layer lines of the pulley.

Installation Guide:

  1. Glue or tape down the attachment point to the top corner of the door
  2. Screw down or tape down the pulley slightly above and beside the door frame as shown in the photos.
  3. Tie a knot to the attachment point using a cord, then pass said cord through the pulley as shown in the photo.
  4. Tie the other end of the cord to the weight of your choosing.
  5. Clip binder clip.
