I'm not a huge fan of blind joints. They're just fiddly and we don't get along well. So when a few folks tried out the assembly jig from Chaotic Labs and had good things to say, I figured it would be worth having something around that would perform those duties for 1515 extrusions.
Nothing fancy, but it does get the job done, and it's pretty agnostic to how the extrusions are settled in. You should have a wrench access hole where needed for standard blind joints.
The 2mm model will allow a standard 2mm hex wrench through, which is probably what most everyone wants. This plays nicely with m3 BHCS.
The 2.5mm model…yeah, 2.5mm hex wrench. Some 1515 extrusions have sufficient clearance that you can use m3 SHCS for blind joints, and that provides some extra beef that I'm a fan of, if it fits.
Probably this is overkill and everyone could print the 2.5mm and live happily ever after, but…I was already in there making changes, so why not.
Test print with ABS is nicely snug, but not difficult to place or remove extrusions. 0.2mm layer height and an 0.4mm nozzle more out of habit than anything else and as many walls and as much infill as you need to feel good about yourself.
The author marked this model as their own original creation.
