Description

PDF

Thin gasket that serves as a protective boot for vibration isolators.

Originally designed for Marine X engine mounts (size small) by AMC Mecanocaucho®.

Features:

  • Prevents galvanic corrosion between the isolator's metal plate and mounting surface
  • Protects both the isolator's metal plate and mounting surface from getting scratched
  • Prevents rusting of the isolator's metal plate (if the gasket is permanently glued to it)
  • Isolates fasteners from the isolator's metal plate (still enough space for a 3/8" bolt)

Printing

Minimum layer height, no brim needed.  Use any non-flexible, non-conductive (no carbon or metal), rigid filament.  This part is very thin, hence it's best to treat everything as the first layer (higher temperature, slower speed).  Make sure to let the build plate cool down to below 50ºC before removing the print (very easy to deform the gasket while it's still hot).

Usage

Place between the anti-vibration mount and mounting surface.  To eliminate any chance of corrosion of the isolator's metal plate, could be permanently glued on with something like 5200.  Optionally, protect the top part of the plate with paint or silicone, then use dielectric washers to avoid galvanic corrosion between fasteners and the top of the metal plate.
