This is an evolution of a previous design I had for a printable underbed cable support to replace the stretchy band that the printer comes with by default. I also liked the suggestion on the M5 Discord channel to incorporate PEI guides to help align the build surface, so I have several different versions of the design:

  1. A simple underbed cable support without PEI guides.
  2. A combined cable support and PEI guides.
  3. A third option of the underbed cable support with removable/adjustable PEI guides.

Option 1 and 2 are pretty self-explanatory.

Option 3. I came up with the third option as I printed the test piece cable supports in eSun PLA+ which handles a 60 degree bed temperature well. I did some prints at 70 degrees and the cable support was unaffected. But at higher temperatures I expect the PLA+ material will soften. The third option allows you to print the support assembly in PLA and the cups that touch the bed in a higher temperature plastic such as PETG or ABS. I am now running an all ABS option 3 setup as I also like the ability to adjust how close the cups sit to the printer bed. I chose this option as I found the print can be a little temperamental to print as it has thin connections to reduce the overall weight of the support design. This is especially evident with PETG. So I figured a good compromise was the ability to print the cable support in PLA and then print the cups in higher temperature plastics as they come into direct contact with the bed. I have another printer that prints ABS well so I took the all ABS option.

I have used the PLA+ design for over 100 hours with no issues, so that is a solid design for bed tempertures up to 70c. I am now printing with option 3 in ABS to confirm the design works well.

When installing the support assembly make sure to push it down onto the bed mounts so that the assembly does not touch the bed. This ensures the bed mounts to the frame as designed. Also ensure you perform a bed leveling after fitment.

Use these designs at your own risk, feedback to help improve the design is welcome.

Based on feedback I have added a version without rounded corners (per the ankermake bed/build sheet design).
