Matterhorn, one of the most spectacular mountain in the world. Build its model in your sandbox. Whether just for fun and play or for educational reasons. Learning about geography will be more fun for children.

  • Model your own Alps in the sandbox.
  • Is your team of ant climbers in the sandbox capable of climbing the seventh highest peak in the Alps? Will they choose the Swiss route or the Italian route? Or will they take the first ascent route?
  • Is your toy car able to go to the top of the Matterhorn?
  • Are you able to build a tunnel under Matterhorn?
  • Are there any treasures or precious stones inside the mountain? Can dig them?

You can also talk to the children about what a valley, a saddle, a ridge, a pass is. Explain what contour lines mean. How water erosion works, why the Alps are sharper than rounded Krkonoše. And surely geography teachers will find a whole host of other learning activities with this tool.

Inner surfaces correspond to the exact elevation profile of the Matterhorn, obtained from touchterrain.geol.iastate.edu. The outer surfaces have all sharp edges rounded for the safety of children.

I recommend printing upside down. Firstly for easier removal of supports and secondly to more faithfully preserve the internal shape.

I am attaching the standard size model and the largest possible size model for MK3*.

*If I won the sand mold contest, I would print and photograph the large version as well.
