This aspirator was designed and built to gently catch resting mosquitoes and move them without harming them for testing. It has a 2 position valve to switch between suck and blow.

It accepts 5015 blower fans of any voltage. I've found the 12 volt fans produce more suction than the 5 volt fans. The rear of some fans have a hole open to the environment and should be closed with tape for maximum suction. Use #6 x 1" wood screws to secure the fan.

It will accept 1-inch 7-dram vials or using the included adapter for the clear acrylic pipes, it will accept this 12mm pipe from Amazon. I included the step file for the adapter so it will be easy to make changes to the adapter for different sized pipes. The screen material used in the adapter is standard household screening cut at 11mm.

It can accommodate a variety of battery holders. The battery compartment size is 115x31x42mm. The switch and wiring you choose will also have to fit into this space.

The valve is retained with a M2 x 5mm hex socket cap screw.

Supplies I equipped ours with include:

Printed Specs:

  • Filament: Hatchbox Orange and White PETG
  • Infill: 10% on main body and valve. 50% for everything else
  • Layer Height: 0.2mm for everything
  • Nozzle: 0.4mm
  • Supports: Yes only on the main body and valve
  • Brim: Yes on main body

I used a long thin flat blade screw driver to help remove supports inside the main body. The value should be a close fit but operate smoothly. Some sanding of the valve and main body may be necessary to achieve this.
