Found myself needing to cut a bunch of 3mm dowel pins so i made a simple jig.

For softer materials you could just press it against a table (I have cut carbon fiber rods this way) but for harder materials such as aluminium or steel a vice is recommended.

Dimensions

Lengths: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30mm

Diameter: 3mm

Printing

Since it's supposed to be clamped in a vice you should probably use at least 40% infill.

The parts have a 0.1mm hollow orifice to force the slicer to add more solid layers.

My settings were:

  • 0.2mm layer height
  • 4 top/bottom layers
  • 3 perimeters
  • 40% infill

…. and it has held up for 50 pins or so and still going strong.
