Football skulpture made from wood

Just ready for the european football championship here comes my contribution - a football skulpture made with wooden bars(mathematically its a truncated icosahedron).

Partlist

• 9 Wooden bars OD=6mm, 1 meter
• 1 Wooden bar OD=16mm, 1 meter
• Print the Mold given
• Wood Glue

Total cost of wood is about 8 Euros

Tools: Saw, 6mm Drill, Rubber Tape, Vise

Instructions:

• Cut the 6mm Rods such you get 90 bars with 10 cm each. You best tie them together and cut 9 bars at a time.
• Print and cleanup the Plastic Mold. Make sure, the 6mm and 16mm holes fit in size.

Insert the 6mm Drill into any of the holes such that the end is approximately in the center.

Now surround the drill with duct tape outside such it cannot proceed any more inisde.

• Attach the Mold to the 16mm bar such it aligns on the top. Mark the position of the "mold nose" on top of the wood. This mark is "outside" and in between the pentagon vertices. the hexagons vertices are between the other 2 holes. Now drill 3 holes of 6mm inside the mold until you hit the duct tape. Finally eject the bar and cut off approximately 15mm from the bar with the saw. Perform this 60 Times.

as a template. Be very careful when attaching the connectors to get "inside" "outside" ,"pentagon" and "Hexagon" correct. Its good practice to work regularily with "layers" e.g. first assemble bottom pentagon with 5 bars and 5 connectors with wooden glue.

Regularily give the glue some time to harden, but always pause with orphan bars. So you can best adjust the angles of the connectors.
