In work it sometimes is required to say no to people comming to you with strange or unrealistic tasks (or sometimes you simply do not like the person ;-) ...).

So a colleague found a picture in shape of a national identification sticker used on cars and we used it in chats, emails and similar things since then. When we came to the idea or oder some stickers I decided that we even can try to print it ...

And what you see is the result.

The design is actualle done in CorelDRAW (I know, no tool for construction, but works for me since I know it very well) and exported into the SVG file format which then is used in OpenSCAD to create the actual 3D model.

Attached you find the SVG files as well as the OpenSCAD files. Unfortunately I was not able to upload the original CorelDRAW files, not even as ZIP.

Print instructions

The OpenSCAD files are parametrized so you can adjust the thickness of the plate and the content.

The settings I used are 0.8mm for the sign plate itself and then after the manual filament change another 0.4mm for the text and frame. With a layer heigth of 0.2mm this works out quite fine. Depending on the translucence of the print material one conent layer might be enough ... or more ...

The sign which is 20cm wide has some mounting holes while the 10cm one is plain.

For my prints I used the following PLA filaments:

  • Plate: Amazon Basics PLA, "Glow in the dark"
  • Conent: PRUSAMENT PLA, "Jet Black"

Even though the "Glow in the dark" Filament is not perfectly white I've chosen it since it is a personal favourite :)
