Yesterday I was trying to print a multi color print with a big footprint. I could not do it - anywhere on the bed because the print would peel up due to being too high in spots and wreck itself. I literally tried for 1.5 days and made nothing but a pile of shredded filament. So I ran this test pattern, duplicated 3 times across the back, middle, and front. It printed the one across the back first, Middle one failed and I stopped the print. What's interesting is the 5 spots across the very back where it's too high, like the nozzle adjusted upward in those spots for no reason and then lowered itself after a short while. To me they look like they're located at 5 probe points.

This model serves two purposes. both to test the first layer and to clean the sheet if you go to a light color print after many prints with dark filament. A great way to remove spots and old filament residue

I didn't print this one, but I made my own to test and my back 1/4 is a complete mess. Too close to the nozzle at the right back and way too far at the back left - so far that individual fill lines just separate from each other like strands of pasta once the print is cooled and removed. (edited)

Just want to say that the 80c 10 min heating before starting a print also solved the issue on my side. Definitely try that if you have issues.

@jF_135480 the problem is we should not have to do this with mesh leveling.

@nikhil_net Exactly - I thought mesh levelling took care of all of the height inconsistencies

I'm experiencing mostly the same thing. I'll try the preheat trick and report back soon.

@n8maher_858278 Did you add this to the printer starting gcode in the slicer?

@XR3D_1536872 yep! The message part doesn't work, but the preheat does! I have a physical printer in Prusaslicer that contains this in the starting gcode. For prints with a small surface area I do not use it, as the problem only appears when a long time has passed between the mesh bed leveling pass and the deposition of the first layer.

Sadly not so good first layer working with support on fixing the issue

@Pixel_586 nice to hear that it is working for you as well
This is what Prusa responded on my question what the longtherm fix is and how often this occurs.

This issue is not very extended, personally I don't remember dealing with any other user having the same issue. I am sure there are more XL units with the same issue you are experiencing, but it is not one of the most recurrent issues with the XL at this moment. Still, I have forwarded your update, and I am checking how we can solve this in your case.

@KeepTheBOX just finished my first full layer test with that new info and its the first time i got a perfect result.
theres also no banding visible in the print at all because i also used a good filament for this test.
looks like this is indeed the entire problem which would kinda make sense given the large print bed will have a lot more movement from heat.
